LAKE AREA HIGH SCHOOL
MMI provided structural and civil engineering services for the construction of a new three-story, 175,000 square-foot school on a site approximately 4 acres in size. The structure consists of a post-tensioned cast in place concrete podium at the 2nd floor which, in turn, supports a structural steel framed 3rd floor and roof level. The entire structure is pile-supported with 30 foot-long wood-concrete composite piles that achieve a design load of 20 tons. The school was built as a high-tech academy with a capacity of 800 students in grades 9-12. The project includes academic classrooms, special education areas, a media center, full cafeteria and kitchen, gymnasium, drama classroom and science labs.
The civil scope of work required enhancement of the entire site for grading and drainage purposes. Additional surface parking, an outdoor gathering area, as well all new sidewalks surrounding the site, were added as part of the project.
