DOLORES T. AARON ACADEMY

MMI provided structural and civil engineering services for the construction of a new three-story school. The building consists of structural steel framing for the floor beams, girders, and columns. The entire structure is pile-supported with 30-foot long wood-concrete composite piles that achieve a design load of 20 tons. The elementary school was built as a high-tech academy for a capacity of 450 students. The school is equipped with a gymnasium, media center, black-box theater, full cafeteria and kitchen, and science labs. The facility replaces the antiquated and overcrowded school that existed before Hurricane Katrina.

The civil scope of work required enhancement of the entire site for grading and drainage purposes. Additional surface parking, an outdoor gathering area, as well as all new sidewalks surrounding the site were added to enhance the project.
