MMI provided full structural design services for an 18,000 square foot private residence located in Panola County, Texas. The residence consists of a guest wing with three bedrooms and a separate garage, a master wing consisting of one bedroom with master bath and personal ATV garage, two kitchens, one interior and exterior, and a living room and game room with 28’-0” and 26’-6” high ceilings. A total of four covered patios were included into the project as well as a main entrance Porte Cochere.
The foundation for the residence was designed to be on a soil supported concrete slab and concrete grade beams supported by 18” diameter concrete drilled shafts. The main structure was designed with conventional wood framing for the bearing walls and a majority of the roof framing. The large attic spaces were framed using web wood joists. In order to achieve the vaulted ceilings in the main living room and game room, MMI utilized large wood framing members, up to 24” x 24” member sizes, and antique pine framing in order to accomplish the aesthetically pleasing rustic look that the architect and client wished to achieve.
