OCHSNER HOSPITAL PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
MMI was brought in to complete the design of Ochsner Hospital’s pedestrian bridge spanning Jefferson Highway, in Metairie, Louisiana, as an integral member of this design-build project. The main span of the air-conditioned pedestrian bridge is approximately 190 feet in length and is framed with tube steel trusses on both exterior walls. In addition to the main span over the highway, conventionally framed connector sections tie into existing buildings at each end of the bridge.
Heavily reinforced concrete shear walls at each end of the main span resist lateral forces imposed on the structure. These shear walls bear on moment resisting reinforced concrete pile caps.
