MMI provided structural engineering services for the expansion of the Jewish Community Center in uptown New Orleans, which will add approximately 16,000 square feet of building space and two outdoor pools.  The new facility will house an indoor heated pool and new locker rooms on the first floor, a cardio studio and personal training space on the second floor, and a spin, yoga, pilates and group exercise areas on the third floor.

The building is supported by 55-foot long treated timber piles with a design capacity of 23 tons.  The first floor and foundation consists of cast-in-place concrete pile caps, grade beams and slabs.  The second and third floors are framed with a concrete slab cast on metal deck, bar joists, and structural steel beams and girders, which are supported by structural steel columns.  The roof framing consists of a metal roof deck, bar joists, and structural steel beams and girders.  Special attention was paid to protecting the structural steel in the two-story space over the indoor pool from corrosion.
