LOUISIANA CANCER RESEARCH
CONSORTIUM

MMI provided the structural and civil engineering design for the construction of this 175,000 square foot facility. Due to the sensitive nature of the work performed in the upper level laboratories, the parking floors were built as a “structure within a structure”, on a separate set of columns, to eliminate traffic vibrations from traveling up the building. The upper levels are generally framed with composite structural steel beams, whereas the lower parking levels generally consist of post tensioned and conventionally reinforced concrete. The structure was built on a 14-inch square concrete precast pre-stressed piling with a design load of 200 tons per pile.
