TRS FOR PUMPING STATIONS

Design activities included the analysis of a temporary work bridge for a 350 ton crane in the existing canal and the design of the temporary cofferdam across the canal to allow the contractor to pump a section of canal dry to allow the construction of new flood protection walls. Additional sheet pile walls were required to allow excavations without compromising the existing levees. Design challenges involved the analysis of the existing soil conditions and in accounting for the poor soil conditions. The poor soil condition indicated that significant stability issues had to be addressed and resisted to allow the contractor to excavate to the required depths.
