Center for Restorative Breast Surgery:: New
Orleans, Louisiana
Morphy, Makofsky, Inc. provided Structural and Civil engineering
for a new medical facility as an expansion of the Center for Restorative
Breast Surgery. The new facility consists of four new operating rooms,
20 patient rooms, ancillary spaces, an entry porte cochere and shade
canopy structures. The new structure has a structural steel frame
with concrete decks. The entire structure is pile-supported with
two types of piles: treated timber, 24-ton piles that are 61 feet
long; and concrete/wood composite, 24-ton piles that are 75 feet
long. A tough sand layer was deep at the front of the site and shallow
at the rear. The treated piles were used at the rear. The 60,000-square-foot,
17-bed facility is adjacent to the world-renowned Center for Restorative
Breast Surgery. It provides care from initial consultation through
recovery.
